Part list:

• BMW E46 instrument cluster with one of the part numbers listed above
• Arduino Mega 2560
• CanBus shield with MCP-Can2515 library (I used one from seedstudio, others may work also, eventualy you have to adjust the code to the needs of your shield)
• Servo for fuel gauge
• 3x Transistor PN2222A
• Resistors with the following values: 4x 1k Ohms, 2x 220 Ohms, 1x 10k Ohm
• A perforated circuit board or any other solution to solder fit the parts together
• 12 volts power supply (for the cluster)
• 5 Volts power supply (for the arduino)
• Arduino relay module with at least 3 relays
• Wires

In this boardpost you can find the changelog and latest files for this project. In the .ZIP-File there is a schematics in PDF so that you can figure out how to wire everything up. Also there is the nCALC-Formular that needs to be added as customcode for the device in the arduino tab of simhub. And last but not least there is the arduino sketch that needs to be uploaded to your arduino.

Use the default Arduino IDE that was installed already with simhub, then you just have to add two more librarys for the upload to the Mega:

Fuelgauge Mod:

To get the fuelgauge working correclty you have to replace the original drive for the gauge with a servo directly controlled by the arduino. This is because of the clusters are delaying the incoming signals from the original fueltank resistors that much, that it wouldn't be possible to simulate it correctly with default hardware.

You can also just skip this modification, if you don't want to have a working fuel gauge.

To replace the original drive you have to open up the cluster! You can desolder the original drive from the front then. After you removed the drive, you need to glue the original shaft into the shaft of the servo. At the last step you should glue the servo to the clusterboard.

Actualy not working:

• Light indicators (used the errorlights instead)
• engine failure indicator
• high beam indicator
